InTENTional Systems’ Melanie Nelson Exemplifies How Tent Companies Create Positive Impact on Local
Communities

Industry-leading tent manufacturer has been empowering Binghamton since 1895

BINGHAMTON, NY (DECEMBER 2023) – Locally-owned businesses have a tremendous impact on communities, both economically and culturally—according to the Star Herald, they “create a sense of place, enhance community identity and contribute to a stronger social fabric.” ¹The story of Melanie Nelson, a sales support specialist at InTENTional Systems, demonstrates how the locally-run tent company empowers the local community while providing service to companies internationally.

Melanie Nelson has worked at InTENTional Systems for almost two years, but has been involved in the company much longer. Nelson’s father, Trent Nelson, is a senior mechanical engineer at InTENTional Systems and has brought his children to the office to explore for years. She remembers playing in the tents as a child and helping her dad test their strength by running circles around the tents with her brother. After graduation, Melanie had planned to move away, but she says her decision to stay and work for InTENTional Systems is one of the best decisions she has ever made.

Today, Melanie is a sales support specialist focusing on internal sales support for InTENTional’s commercial and military clients in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, West Coast, and International territories. Since joining the team, Melanie has been instrumental in raising the bar when it comes to client satisfaction. Customers have come to trust her and the excellent customer service she provides.

“Working at inTENTional Systems has been a blessing for me. I can’t believe it’s been almost two years with the company! My work family and customers help make this job fun and rewarding,” said Nelson of her time at InTENTional Systems.

While Melanie provides customer service to clients all around the globe, what strikes her is inTENTional’s impact on the local community — “everyone in Binghamton has a connection to InTENTional. Sometimes, we’ll go out to dinner after work, and we’ll inevitably run into someone who has a story about their relationship to InTENTional Systems; it’s wonderful to see.” In fact, InTENTional Systems has a long-standing commitment to the Binghamton community, supporting local non-profits, working in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce on community events, and through sponsorships and volunteerism. Melanie lives across the street from a local park where there is an annual music festival where we donate tents. She can look out her window and see first-hand the impact we have on the community.

Melanie aspires to continue to grow within the Sales / Customer Service Department team under Carol Cundey, senior sales & marketing manager, whose dedication to the customer, Nelson says, is unparalleled. “Watching the relationships she’s built over the years is inspiring,” said Nelson. “She cares deeply about the industry, and watching her work grows my own passion.” Watching Cundey has inspired Nelson to see that InTENTional Systems can be a place to create a meaningful career as a woman. InTENTional Systems is dedicated to Improving the local community. The company has been a mainstay in Binghamton since its foundation in 1895 and plans to continue to support the community as it grows. “One of our main objectives over the next few years is to hire locally as the business continues to grow,” said Carol Cundey,. “Melanie exemplifies our commitment to family, tradition, and the local community; we are thrilled to have the opportunity to nurture her career.”  InTENTional Systems specializes in the manufacturing of party tents, pole tents, frame tents, keder frames, high-peak frames, canopies, clearspan structures, sidewalls/ lighting, and accessories.
